So we had an ultrasound....

We went in on Friday, January 6th for an ultrasound to find out if Ed was right or wrong.  =)  Ed has been so convinced that we are having a boy.  Early on we discussed names and we have been struggling with deciding between Jake and Ryan for a boy.  We haven't really been focusing on girl names, but when we talked about it we really liked Ashlee the best but we never thought about it again since Ed insisted it's a boy.  I never really had an inclination about what the baby was...all I know is that it's a good baby and has been SUCH an easy pregnancy so far.  I've enjoyed the little kicks that I orginally thought would totally freak me out - and I'm not going to lie...it is weird, but it's reassuring at the same time.

I'm not showing a whole lot -  people who don't know I'm pregnant probably just think I've gained 10 pounds.  And although most of my clothes still fit I've started to create my maternity wardrobe and find it more comfortable.

So are you ready for the news!?!?!?!  Well...Ed was WRONG!!  =)  haha.  I probably tease him too much about that, but we are having a little girl.  The ultrasound was a special diagnostic ultrasound since my family has a genetic birth defect history and they checked her from head to toe literally and she's absolutely perfect.  Her face looks like she has very defined features.  She's 1 lb 2 oz so far so they moved my due date up to May 11th.  We are very excited for her.  And we are set on a name as well...we figure it was meant to be since we never wavered on the girl name and seemed to not be able to settle on a boy name.

So coming May 11th (around about) we will welcome Ashlee Mary Roldan to our little family.  We chose Mary because it is my grandmother's name and she was such an important person in my life.  She never let a conversation go by where she did not tell me how much she loved me, how great she thought I was, and how proud she was of me.  In my toughest moments in life I can hear her voice in my head reminding me of those things.  It's helped me through a lot.  She also was a major factor in our family joining the church.  On a family vacation someone in my mom's family found a Book of Mormon in their hotel room and before letting the children read it my grandmother read it cover to cover...under the original pretense to prove it wrong.  When she finished she had a testimony of the gospel and invited the missionaries to come teach her and her husband.  It wasn't until they both wanted to be baptized that she allowed the missionaries to teach the kids.  She very much wanted each child to gain their own testimony on their own so she did not tell them that she and my grandpa had already decided to be baptized.  She was an incredible woman of faith throughout my life...constantly serving others.  She had a great love of genealogy and submitted over 27,000 family names to the temple.  She was hard-working and determined...and definitely a stubborn streak.  She wasn't perfect but she loved us with all her heart and we all loved her.  I'm so happy to honor her by naming my daughter after her.
